What is this blog about? (Or: What WILL this blog be about?)
House Raffles, something that has been quite common for a while in the predominantly English speaking parts of the world are a fabulous idea! The odds to win a house raffle are better by a thousand times if compared to all more traditional lotteries plus it sort of is mmore fun to actually have pictures of what one can win, dream about living in that particular house than compared to other lotteries where one can just win money, and can only dream of what one would do with the money… So: house raffles are a truly great idea – plus the concepts helps homeowners in times of crisis to obtain a fair market price for their property which will in many cases allow them to completely cover any loans burdening them. Banks too should love the concept because it helps avoid short-sales which again would hurt their own financial standing.
House raffles are almost the definition of a win-win-win situation!

OK, so house raffles are old hat for you? Well pardon us “European -mainland- hillbillies” but to us the concept was newly introduced last year, early 2009 when a Lady from Austria who could not sell her beautiful property due to the real estate crisis started to offer raffle tickets. The rest is – as the saying goes- history and house raffles have experienced an incredible gold rush during 2009.
By September 2009 we had suddenly some 200 house raffles in the web many of which had been started by people who did not want to miss the train, jumped onto it, often enough without even having a clue where the ride was going to. Because absent of the attention the first raffle had received from the media it quickly turned out that to run a house raffle meant enormous effort and hard work. That most of these 200+ opportunists quickly had enough and gave up was a logical consequence that came as a surprise only to the naive.

I don’t want to elaborate here on our philosophy but I’d like to take the opportunity to state that we have been developing tools to properly run house raffles since 2007, when the hype hit us it was welcome and since we own more than 700 first class top-level domains you can imagine that we came to stay. First the hype, followed by the depression, .. we just did dig our heels firmly into the ground and weathered the events. We have seen them rise who have claimed to be smarter than anybody (particularly us *smile*) and they are long since gone and we are still here. Did I already say: “We came to stay!” ?

Anyway: One of the principles we firmly believe in is: No two house raffles are the same. Just like there are no two pieces of real estate the same and some potential participants will favor on property while others will be more attracted by another property. Additional criteria where to participate are the price of a ticket, the odds offered, time to drawing etc.  No matter how many house raffles are being offered there is room for each one of them and there is no reason why those conducting these raffles should not collaborate to make the “scene” more attractive for participants from all corners of the world.

Due to the hype (which of course helped getting started! we did focus on the German speaking markets in Europe during the last 14 month or so. We felt it to be time to expand our field of vision to the international markets – especially since my personal command of the English language is quite acceptable despite it not being my native tongue. (As you can tell, I don’t have too much problems expressing myself in English

Since we believe that collaboration is smarter than (pointless! see my reasoning above) competition we have been creating and offering joint gateways to our “competitors” in the past – quite successfully! No reason why that should not also work for the English speaking markets! We have already copied our German Forum to a new domain and translated some of its content to English => www.Rafflesforum.com (which is sister to the German www.Verlosungsforum.com) …. we have created this blog which is sister to the German version that can be found at http://die-hausverlosung.blogspot.com we will soon introduce a joint marketing gateway similar to www.hausverlosungen.ag that will be published at www.sweetraffles.com and we also have introduced our new Charity both in German and English from the start (www.Play2Help.net)

As you can see, we may be “the new kids on the block” but we are not new to the scene and we come with open arms leaving the shields at home!
Especially since the original idea for house raffles was to support charity, and since this is a matter of the heart to us as well, we see a lot of common possibilities – at least way more uniting ones than the opposite.
